Meet The Team

Laura McIntyre
Medical Director
Nurse Practitioner
Founder of Rise Medical Aesthetics
I’m the owner and creator of Rise Medical Aesthetics. As a Registered Nurse since 2006, I’ve been doing a variety of injections for over 15 years. As I started my medical aesthetics career in 2020, facial injections have been a natural extension of my already well established practice. I am committed to the craft of aesthetic medicine by continually engaging in advanced practice education in dermal filler and neuromodulator injections. I am excited to be working alongside very knowledgeable and talented injectors to provide therapeutic and cosmetic neuromodulator treatments as well as full face rejuvenation with dermal filler at Rise Medical Aesthetics.
In addition to launching Rise Medical Aesthetics, I completed my Master’s in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Degree in 2019. I am passionate about advanced nursing practice and developing the profession towards a more holistic healthcare model. I deliver full scope primary care across the patient’s lifespan and feel privileged to be a part of this profession.

I’m an Island Girl and Nurse at heart and I envisioned Rise Medical Aesthetics as a space where my community could come together in wellness.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting your rise towards the best version of yourself!

Rachel Gaskell
Registered Nurse
As a Registered Nurse, I have worked in Oncology (primarily chemotherapy) for over ten years.
Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, I was interested in a career in Medical Aesthetics, so after careful consideration and many years of practice, I completed my Medical Aesthetics training. I'm excited for this creative addition to my Nursing practice and using my medical expertise to help my clients at Rise.

In some ways, oncology and Medical Aesthetics could not be more different, but there are many skills that I have honed as an RN in cancer care that can be transferred to my work at Rise:

-
client safety, assessment, education, and comfort is always paramount.
-
injections must be precise, as well as gentle.
-
connecting with clients and helping put them at ease during their treatments.

I consider Medical Aesthetics an important facet of a holistic approach to health care. It can increase our overall feeling of wellness, as well as address health and beauty concerns in unique ways.
I look forward to consulting with long-time and new clients along with the extraordinary team at Rise!

Shawna Chappell
Registered Nurse
My name is Shawna and I was born and raised in Nanaimo, B.C. I have been a Registered Nurse in this community for the last 7 years and completed my Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Vancouver Island University in 2015. Soon after graduation, I found a passion for Emergency Nursing and went on to finish my speciality Emergency Nursing training through BCIT. In addition to my Medical Aesthetics practice, I continue to work in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s Emergency Department.

I have always had a strong passion for Medical Aesthetics and have dreamed of providing these services to my community. With my wide range of practical Nursing experience, knowledge of Human Anatomy, and years of clinical injecting experience, Medical Aesthetics has been a natural fit. I have been a long time client, as well as advocate for cosmetic injectables and believe that the field of Medical Aesthetics has so many different applications that assist with body positivity and boosting self confidence. The enjoyment that I gain through my Medical Aesthetics practice and from my satisfied clients has been nothing short of revelatory and has allowed me to excel in this area of medicine.

I'm excited to be working with a team of incredibly talented and knowledgeable injectors at Rise Medical Aesthetics and I can't wait to meet new clients and give them the treatment results that they've been dreaming of.
