Injectable neuromodulators are a class of medication—most commonly Botox®—used to soften expression lines and help prevent deeper creasing over time. They work by relaxing targeted muscles that create repeated folding of the skin, allowing the overlying skin to look smoother and more refreshed.

Neuromodulators are a core focus of our practice, performed by our aesthetic nurse specialists. Our approach is evidence-based and patient-centered, with careful assessment, precise treatment, and follow-up. Prior to treatment we include a comprehensive discussion about the treatment and your goals, including what you’re noticing, what you’d like to soften, and how you want your results to look and feel.

Neuromodulators can be used to treat common expression lines and muscle-related concerns in the upper face, lower face, and neck. Common areas include forehead lines, frown lines (glabella/“11s”), crow’s feet, and the brow area (for subtle lift/shape support when appropriate). In the lower face, treatment may be used for downturned mouth corners, chin dimpling/“orange peel” texture, lip flip and lip line softening. Botox® may be used to soften the appearance of platysma neck bands when appropriate.

 

What to expect during treatment:

•Treatment time: The treatment itself is quick, with minimal disruption to your day. If it’s your first visit with us, we’ll take a bit more time for a comprehensive consultation and to review your goals before proceeding.

• Comfort + downtime: Minimally invasive with little to no downtime; temporary redness, swelling, or pinpoint bruising can occur.

• Results timeline: Changes often appear in 3–5 days, with full results around 10–14 days.

• Longevity: Results commonly last 3–4 months, sometimes longer depending on the area treated and individual metabolism.

Our neuromodulator treatments are performed by Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses, we adhere to the strict professional and safety standards governed by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). We follow evidence-based protocols for assessment, treatment, and aftercare. Our team brings 35 years of injectable experience exclusively in aesthetics. We’re also proud to have Nanaimo’s only aesthetic nurse specialist, Leah Dumaine, who has been injecting for over 18 years exclusively in aesthetics.

Because neuromodulators continue to settle over the first two weeks, details matter. We’re genuinely invested in treatment results, which is why a follow-up appointment is required after your first treatment at Rise. It’s our privilege to assess your outcome, confirm balance and movement, and make small refinements when appropriate. We offer neuromodulator options including Botox® (primary), Dysport®, and Nuceiva®
